2010: Worst Year For Movies, Like, Ever

Just in case you were in any doubt about how catastrophically, horrifically dismal this year is turning out:

  2. The Incredible Suit must have boarded a Tardis or have a girl friend called Claire Voyent, for how else can he know that 2010 was the worst year for film ever. How about 1431 when the only spectacle was Joan of Arc going up in flames and there was no film, and no iphones for sharing images of the conflagration. By the way Queen Elizabeth I didn't have film to watch either but did enjoy 8.1 surround sound. Thomas Tallis composed Spem in Alium for 8 choirs of 5 voices. Leonardo DaVinci made cartoons ages before Walt Disney.

  4. Mmm, methinks Celine lies, that's not what a film of her through my eyes should look like. I'd need a sick bucket next to me to pay and go and see that. Even to watch it for free.

On to some good 2010 films...anyone seen Precious? I can't imagine there can be many who have seen it without a good blub. Definitely think Mo'nique deserves her supporting actress nomination although I've seen a few reviews it's the equivalent of Hugh Grant playing a floppy haired posh boy. Still, I thought she was damn convincing.

  5. Precious was agonising to watch and it got worse as it went along. Her callous monster of a mother is dispiriting. I find it hard to accept that anyone can behave as she did, which is why her type get away with it. No sane person could imagine such abuse still less believe it to be taking place. Gut churning revulsion was my reaction to the film. Any awards given out are secondary to the real human drama.

  6. Yeah but does it have any explosions or robots?

SSJ, when writing about film it's conventional to be interesting, relevant, knowledgeable and witty. I defy all those conventions with every word.

  7. A film review may not need to be witty if you consider the following.

    Wit is educated insolence (Aristotle).

Great wits are sure to madness near allied.
And thin partitions do their bounds divide.
    (Dryden)

Quotation is a servicable subsitute for wit.
    (Wilde)

Trust Oscar Wilde to have said something which traps you if you quote him.

  10. After watching the preview I could not decide whether to stick pencils in my ears so I would be deaf or poke my eyes out first.

    I went with the pencils.
