  1. I'm hearing this Saturday treat on the following Friday. It is as usual well chosen. Hearing Mancini works together I am struck by how often he uses dramatic and complex percussion as the foundation of his compositions followed by a simple catchy bass line. The melody goes on top of all that, with woodwind, brass and strings taking turns. It makes ideal movie music. I wonder if he matched his music to picture or if it was the other way round. He won 4 Oscars and 16 other awards. He wrote music for 277 productions in all. What a fabulous career.
