The Ides Of March
Everything and everyone in The Ides Of March reeks of so much class that it's a shame the story isn't more interesting. It promises much and delivers most of it, but if it weren't for The Cloonz' solid direction, Gosling's unmatchable amazingness and a supporting cast to die for, there's no way this film would be enjoying its own gala screening at the London Film Festival. And the fact that that's all I can think of to say about it is definitely a reflection on the film and not in any way an indication of my own inadequacies.

You're so gay for Gosling.
ReplyDelete...then again aren't we all?
HELL YEAH.
ReplyDeleteThis is entertaining even if suspense barely builds and pay-off revelations come with little surprise. Clooney, as a director, is also able to draw-out amazing performances from this whole ensemble cast. Great review.
ReplyDeleteRe-watched Cofessions of a Dangerous Mind the other day and it really is a gem. He made some very brave decisions and there are many directors who could not have got away with the clever in camera effects he pulled off so well...and that was his first film.
ReplyDeleteEqually Good Night and Good Luck was a fantastic film.
"In America we have institution, costitution and prosssssssssperity." Well I'm content to go with stories of the Watergate break in (1972) as an example of how corrupt things are in Washington. This movie tells us nothing new about American politics.
