Saturday Playlist #18: John Barry

There isn't much that can be said about John Barry that hasn't been said elsewhere this week. All I would add is that he was a great hero of mine who enriched my life immeasurably with some of the most perfect music ever to accompany what Caitlin Moran quite accurately described as "some right-wing sex-tourist crashing a load of cars."
The Incredible Suit has already cobbled together three playlists that include some of his best work - James Bond In The 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. This week's playlist gathers more Bond tunes and some of Barry's other, equally terrific work.

  2. I'm just getting to the end of the John Barry playlist which has been a great pleasure to hear. I love the subtle weaving of the themes into the background of dramatic tension building music. While watching a film I'm sometimes not aware of the music, but it is there sucking me in to the action. At other times such as the legendary Bond credit sequences it is all about the music in which Barry excelled.

Oscar for Dances with Wolves (1991)
Oscar for Out of Africa (1985)
Oscar for The Lion in Winter (1968)
2 Oscars for Born Free (1966) (Music Score & Song)

    Three cheers for John Barry.

  3. I was once told by a lovely punter in the long lamented Dean Street Records, that the long delay in releasing a Body Heat soundtrack was due to John Williams withholding permission because of his tune over the Ladd Company ident which was, for some reason included. He helpfully advised me to sate my hunger with the OST to Farewell, My Lovely.

Do you know if this is actually true and more to the point, would you really care?
